Cost estimate of a rebuild on powerhead

I just received a call from my boat mechanic, this weekend. He says that I have one cylinder at 82 pounds. 1999 j150plees. The compression numbers are as follows: 98 92 82 108 100 90. How much money should I expect to spend 1, 2, or 3 thousand? I plan on conducting my own compression check when I pick the boat up this week. I hope he was wrong about the 82. I have had an issue with fuel delivery I think. It will get out of the hole great sometimes, but other times it wont. Sometimes it will bog down and die. It has had a problem idling, ever since I bought it a month ago. So I figured the carbs were a little gummed up. So I took it to a boat mechanic. He told me that since I had a dead hole, It could last for 3 weeks or 3 years depending on how hard I ran the motor. He ran some evinrude power tune through it and said that this was the easiest and cheapest thing to try first. He also said that if he had to pull the carbs and clean them it would cost 50 bucks for the first carb and then 25 bucks for each additional carb. I found out I have 6 of them! So, should I find another outboard or spend the money to have it rebuilt? Also, if I do have it rebuilt is it going to be "weaker' due to boring the cylinder walls bigger? I wouldn't think so though. Any response would be appreciated. Oh yeah, Does anybody have a 175 for sale, at a decent price?

Run a can of tuner through it first. Then test compression then a second can of tuner. The bottom two cylinders are generally lower as they get all the exhaust down there. Your fuel delivery issue can be from many things. And it may be an electrical issue instead of a fuel issue. Once you run two cans of tuner through it, retest your compression. Take the boat to the lake and run it. On accelleration if it stumbles hit the choke if it picks up and takes off you have a fuel issue. If not and it stumbles and dies then you have an electrical issue.
Check your throttle roller as pinned at the top of this forum. Verify that the throttle plates are all opening fully at wide open throttle. Insert a piece of clear hose between the primer bulb and the motor and watch for bubble and t in a vacuum gauge and watch the gauge for the proper reading per the shop manual.
