You need to remove the shift rod housing. There are actually two O rings there an upper and lower. To install them lube the outside and inside with TCW-3 then lube the shift rod with triple guard grease.
Im sorry guys, the lower unit (i was told) is a 96 150 FS, the original lower unit seized up a couple years ago so i bought a used one. I have the shift rod disconnected and the housing removed, but there seems to be a brass cover over the o ring, how do i remove that, or do i need to. Thanks
Flip the housing over you'll need 2 318372 O rings $1.00 each.
You'll need to make a "puller" out of a piece of coat hanger to reach in behind the O ring. By bending and grinding the end of @ a 6" piece, you'll get it out. It can be tricky so hang in there.![]()
I wondered what those fat little o-rings were for.![]()
SUCCESS!! Thanks for the help.
