Rusty?- Water pressure guage- 1990 200 GT

Hey Rusty. I installed a water pressure guage this weekend adn per the instructions I spliced the hose going to the outlet in the cowling about three inches aboutve the outlet itself. The water pressure gugae does not work unless the outlet is covered or plugged. Did I place the the tee in the wrong place? Does it hurt to plug the tell tell outlet in the cowling?

Try removing the hose from the back of the gauge to see if H20 is coming out you should have plenty of pressure to the gauge when you have the tell tale open. As long as you T'd into the tell tale line and used the correct size T fitting you should be good to go. CM

I tried that. No water gets to the guage unless I plug the tell tell outlet.. Once plugged the guage works great, gives the pressure I would expect.

Path of least resistance......My guess is your telltale is a big un and there is not enough pressure at idle to make it all the way up the hose. Have you run it like this or just on the hose?

I have run it like this, no water pressure unless the tell tell is plugged, then water pressure guage works fine

You have the hose hooked in the wrong place, You did what the instructions told you to do but your motor has power boost cooling so the instructions are incorrect for your motor.

Look at the hose you are hooked into, follow it to the valve at the throttle linkage, now follow the small tube that runs to the top rear of the block, there is an elbow that hose is connected to, splice in close to the elbow and recheck the guage, it should work hooked there.
