    Holes and buffing.... Need help!!!!!!!

Ok guys, I wet sanded my Bass Hawk when I got it and thought I had done a good job. Yesterday I took off my trolling motor in order to put a piece of rubber under it so it would not be metal on fiberglass. Well as you can guess I got to see what the boat color was originally. I was so sad . So my question is, 1. How can I fix these big holes someone drilled, 2. What is the best way to get back too or as close as I can to the factory shine. I have a variable buffer, what pads and compound to I need to use. You can see where the trolling motor was at first, then a dull spot where it was moved too later and then you can see where I wet sanded. Any help would be appreciated.

As for the gel coat, wet sanding like you're doing is the best bet. Take your time! Don't get in a hurry! Keep the paper wet, and keep rinsing. Its a labor of love. Compound with wool bonnet on high speed buffer, and then a good wax.
As for the holes......I filled mine with some 3/4" plastic caps (black) that I got at Lowes. Look for them in the hardware section, in the drawers. Seal with good silicone before installing.

    Good luck!

I filled mine with cork from some wine bottles and then put some self leveling silicone used for windshields on top of it. Worked great and was even looking. It was all covered by the trolling motor anyway.

Wouldn't it be better to tape off the bottom of the holes and fill them with fiberglass resin or marine- tex? Just asking?

I thought of that also. Probably do that. Is there a faster way to buff a boat besides wet sanding.

I think wet sanding then buffing then waxing is your best option.
Basscat7 is the guy I would be asking. He's "the Man" when it comes to stuff like this.

Wet sanding, compound, and finish glaze will bring it back. But it's a lot of tough labor. You may need to drop down to 800 grit and start there.

Good to see someone else restoring a hawk,, I filled the old troll motor holes in my Hawk with 2 part epoxy clay, really easy to do, waterproof and permanent. It also can be sanded or drilled if necessary ...

Go to a good hardware store and get the rubber stoppers and put them in the holes. Then take a razor blade and trim flush. When you wet sand if you are going to go the mechanical route you need a pretty good compressor and a Harbor freight air powered wet sander. Then get the hook and loop sanding disks. 600, 1000, 1200, 1500. Always washing off the debris before changing grit. If you don't want to go air sander, then do the same with regular wet dry as stated keep the paper wet. I like to cut them into 4" X 8" strips and fold in half then flip over. For buffing you need a waffle pad, a green pad and a wool pad. If it is bad a rubbing compound on waffle pad on a speed of about 2 then follow up with a medium cutter like 3M finesse it II works great with a green foam pad. Start it at 2 and work up to 3. Then apply a polish with a blue pad and a machine glaze with the same blue pad. Then a wax applied by hand and buffed with the wool pad. You can wash them all once done to use again. A good auto paint store will have all the stuff you need.
