    Gel base coat

I have some chips in the gel coat (with flake) that need replacing on my Ranger, and a few are down to the black base coat. It looks like there are 2 base coats, one grayer, and one blacker. Do I need to replace both, or is one ok? Also, how do I make the edges I am sparing onto match? Thanks

    Re: Gel base coat (GreenRanger364V)

The backer for the flake is usually black. Use a dremel to clean the edges of the gouge. You don't want any over hanging edges in the opening. I would use the back gel, blow some polyflake on the black while its wet, then cover with clear gel. You can tell when you have enough flake. Fill with the clear a little above the surrounding gel then sand down to match the surrounding gel. Don't sand through the clear or the flake will silver and you will have to re-do it.
