what to do with a new boat, new finish issues

Bought a new boat this weekend. Drove it home 800+ miles, with the cover on. When I got home I realized the cover has done some damage to the finish! This sucks! It's worst over the console/windshield area, but I have some of the same issues along the top cap, just not nearly as bad. Basically the inside of the cover rubbed the finish off, or at least made it hazy. I have issues along the white hull also, but meguires cleaner wax seems to be working there to take the black scuffs out of the finish from where the black cover rubbed into the finish.

I'm not sure if there's anything I can do myself to get rid of this. The boat is brand new. hardly seen the sun yet so this will probably get worse in a hurry once it does. Is there a rub on product that will mask these issues?

If the product is partially making it look better, then a rubbing compound and glaze then wax like the stickied fixing gelcoat thread would probably work. Have you got a buffer? Dont really worry because that clear is probably like the thickness of a quarter over that black anyway. It isnt like auto paint where you might sand through very easily. Even if you have to 1000-2000 grit sand, still have tons of gelcoat left.

Edit: did you call the dealer and explain? For what you probably paid for that boat, the sales crew may recommend you to a local brand authorized dealer and have them buff it fresh for you. For what a new bass boat costs, you would think they would be able to do small stuff like that for you just to keep your business and the word of mouth factor.

Call the dealer first. They may have you take it somewhere to have buffed out.

A mild rubbing compound by hand will take those scuff marks right off. Do not use a buffer on the new gel unless you are really experienced in running one.
Micro fiber cloth, some elbow grease and mild compound will take out those rub marks.

Once they are removed you'll want to polish the gel ( Glaze ) and then wax.

This happens a LOT when guys tow with a cover. If towing with a cover, it has to be put on perfectly aligned and strapped TIGHT to prevent any wind from getting under it and causing friction with the gunnels or consoles.
Towing 800 miles, you had plenty of opportunities for that to happen.
If towing that far again, look into getting a roll of stretch wrap from Home Depot for a few bucks.

Wrap the top cap gunnels and console tops with the plastic wrap prior to putting the cover on. The plastic will stick tight to the boat and prevent the cover from rubbing while at highway speed.
