I am restoring a 84 Ranger that the top gel was just faded beyond wet sanding and buffing. Flake was basically coming out of the gel. I used to paint Lowrider cars for 10 yrs so I did alot of flake jobs in the past. Now my question is what (if any) are the main difference between a good top quality clear job vs a gel coat job? I asked the guy at my local paint shop and he said wasnt much (different materials) that I should just stay with the Glasurate clear I was planning on using. 8 yrs ago I repaired a spot on the boat with regular clear and to this day that spot is still shiny and doing good versus the original gel coat.

Can some one please help me out???
