My '88 Stratos is down to the flake...It's been wet sanded, compounded, buffed a couple of time over the last 5 years. I try to keep a coat of wax on it, and spray quik wax and quik detailer products between uses...I keep it covered, but the gel seems to just soak all of the products up, and still has the rough dry feel to it after a day on the water. I'm not worried about having the prettiest boat, and the top cap is mostly dark blue, so it doesn't bother me too much to be missing some flake. However, I would rather is be missing flake and have some shine, as opposed to being chalky. It doesn't look bad at all after a fresh wax, but it sure doesn't long to fade. Should I wet sand again with some 2000 to smooth everything back out, and just use a good paste wax more often??
P.S. my not so bright friend wants to rattle can clear it...I told him "Hell no".
