    price check

How much did it cost you to do your boats carpet? I have a '98 Gambler and the Carpet is starting to look a little thin... was wanting to know how much in general it cost everyone before I just started ripping up the carpet.

My bunks need to be redone as well...

    Thanks in advance

I would go with 20 oz carpet........that is probably what came in yours. You can compare 20 and 24 oz and see the difference. If you try to upgrade to a heavier carpet, you will run into problems. I go my carpet at Lowe's (Believe it or not) but now I think they only carry 6 foot wide rolls now.

I caught it on closeout for like $2 a running foot. I would use 3M contact cement and a roller. Apply it to both the CLEAN deck and back of the CUT AND FITTED piece of carpet. Make sure that both are slightly dry and tacky. **ONCE THEY CONTACT EACH OTHER..............IT'S THERE FOR GOOD** If that happens you have to start over with that area. Make sure you have plenty of "Visegrip clamps" and aluminum angle to help press the hinge side as flat as possible before you try to re-attach the lids. Use stainless steel screws and nylon nuts not rivets.

Use a counter top roller to press it in place everywhere.....using just the pressure of your hand is NOT good enough. You must get the absolute best press out of it or you will get "release spots" Yeah, I know from experience........

It may sound involved but, it's really not bad to tackle yourself. Just be patient and take your time. Make sure the humidity is not real bad.

    Have fun !!!!!

Length of boat + 7-8 ft. if using 6ft wide roll [in reality, if you buy from a boat store it will be 25ft or 30 ft x 6ft or 8ft.] I used 20oz. and Roberts outdoor waterproof glue for deck, floor and lockers + 3M contact for lids. Personally, I don,t like to cut exact and use contact glur - no wiggle room. make sure you mark the lids and the carpet for uniform direction. See the post at the top for cutting corners. Keep the windows or doors open. For the bunks, I used Roberts waterproof, rolled a flap of carpet over each end and used stainless steel staples on the underside to keep things in place. I used galvanised lag bolts to reattach the bunks. Total cost $210 + 16 hours labour [includes removal of old carpet] ..........enjoy!

In general for carpet, glue, adhesive stripper or acetone and the other misc. items runs in the neighborhood of $250-300 when the jobs said and done. When figuring carpet rule of thumb is get 10 more feet than the boats length.

I did the carpet in my old winner and it only cost around $90 for marine 20 oz. carpet. The glue and scrapers, knifes were about another 35-40.
And I had alot left over
So depending on type of carpet, $125-$200 I'd say.
