Replacing steering cables on a 95 ranger

Am I nuts for thinking about replacing my old wornout teleflex cables on my 95 ranger 492VS? The path looks to be fairly open and manuverable. You would also think that replacing the 2 cables there with the newer single cables would be an easier pull. Opinions?

    I replaced mine on my 1995 487vs.
Farily easy, I tied a rope to the old cables pulled them through. Tied the rope on the new cables and pulled them through.

As I remember I had my wife pull the rope and I pushed the cables from the other end.

I replaced mine this winter on my 363. Used the rope method as earlier described.

I had a jackplate so I had to remove the engine from the boat to remove and install the cables from the engine.

If your boat came with two cables you need to go back with two for safety reasons.

Overall not much of a job. I wish I had done it years ago.

I just changed over from old dual pull cable system to Seastar Hydraulic. I would NEVER go back to cable steering. I have an 85 370V with Johnson Fast Strike on it and it is a joy to use now. I picked up the Seastar unit from ebay for 500 total (used), and it works great.
