Go to your locak building supply store and buy some wood grain laminate. You guys may call it arborite, I'm not sure. Using the lid as a template with a flush trimming bit on a router, cut the laminate to size and glue it on with contact cement.

Try C and O marine they are pretty good at finding stuff.
I have a 85 350 Ranger and used BTS on the dash panel that was pretty faded and it made it like new (almost) I did put on three coats but believe me the stuff worked great. I also use BTS on whole boat and really believe in this stuff. !!!!!
