I just had the entire gear casing replaced by c & o yesterday and after two runs the clutch or gear shift will not engage forward or reverse. .. I have one more day on KY lake before I head back to Ohio...any ideas? Please help. Thanks. Jeff 614-519-2176 cell

Yep it moves forward and back but does not engage the motor. It ran fine for several runs then just quit. Prop spins in neutral just fine. Idles but quits without a little gas from the hotfoots.
it could be the linkage at the motor loose or at the shifter, or possible the shift rod has come loose on the top or bottom , have you took the cowl off and looked at the linkage?

no ,just take the cover off the motor and check the cable, see if they are moveing when you move the shifter

well it could have come off, on mine its the bottom one that's the shift cable and the top is the gas,if its not moving ,its in the hand shifter at the drivers seat if its moving back at the motor follow it across to the center of the front of the motor under the throttle bodies[looks like carbs] to where it connects to the top of the shift rod an see if its connected there, if all is well to that point its probably in the lower unit, but since its been off lately it just may have come loose somewhere in there,[the cables go in on the drivers side on mine so it should be the same on the 200]

The cables in the motor are not moving.
sounds like a broken cable or bad control box.

There is a little round piece in handbox that holds the grooved brass cablenfitting in place...it is not holding the brass fitting in place so the silver cable is not moving inborn out. Is the little round piece spring loaded? Seems like all I need to replace is that little piece.
Where are you staying on KY lake? If you are on the KY side near the dam Jet-A-Marina is in Calvert City. Not sure how much of a haul it would be for you to go back to White Bluff.
Jet a is awesome. They helped me out a year ago. Thanks for the help everyone. Going to rig It to work today and then return to Ohio tomorrow and get a new handbox.
