    2007 225HO e-tech overheating

I have a 2007 225HO e-tech model E225DHLSUA serial # 05188140. The motor overheats at 3/4 to full throtle only when the temperature is hot outside. Up until now ran all year no problems. It done the same thing last year after it got hot outside late in the summer. The dealer done all the updates, replaced popit springs, replaced the water pump and housing. Then found the bolts had backed off slightly that holds the block to the stump. I have not had any problems until now every thing checks out again where do we go from here. Max water psi is 15 lbs at wot. 10 psi at half throtle.

You may need to lower the motor 1/4 inch or so, see if that helps. I never run my '06 225ho less than 15# at WOT.

Interesting (not really), again another big block Etech that has the mid-section connection bolts loosen. It is important for owners to check these six bolts to ensure they are tight or not broken as sever engine damage can result. This situation happened to my motor too, and was not covered under the extended warranty.

Someone will chim in soon that may has a better opions than mine.

The motor ran out of warranty in dec 09 so I don't know if they will now. So many things have been done it is a long list.

To find out what is happening inside the motor, hook up a water pressure gauge at the motor fitting, and a clear tubing loop from the EMM cooling hose to watch for air bubbles. Now go run the boat at the problem speeds and look for a loss of pressure and/or aerated water in the system.

Thanks that has not been done. My question is if there is a loss of pressure ( we have already installed a new psi gauge and it does not show a loss of pressure) or areation how do is that fixed the motor is all stock from factory?

did what you said water pressure was 1 lb lower than console and there was no boubles at speed. I really think there should be more pressure than 15 any suggestions?

Seahorse thanks for the link. What can be done to bring the psi up. Dealer is asking evinrude if the new tube can be installed like the 250's would that help.

After looking at the chart and going over notes I have on the motor. Once I reach 3500 rpm's I stay below what is recomended by 3PSI all the way up. I saw a note that says PSI varies by setup, screen etc. Mine has the plastic cage looking screen one side is cracked only slightly. How would screens change flow and how would you change them out. That don't look like a easy job.

When the water pressure is low, change the pump and have the dealer be sure to pull the driveshaft upwards before locking the impeller to the shaft, per the service letter. Be sure to use the complete 5001595 pump kit, no aftermarket brands or impellers only. Check your motor height and trim settings also.

If your gearcase has the black plastic water inlet screens, they are held by 2 screws and easily replaced. The GENERAL INFORMATION section of the http://www.etecownersgroup.com has a reference chart for the different screens.

An oldtimers trick for marginal water pressure is to put the impeller cup in the pump housing then using emery paper on a sheet of glass, sand the housing and the cup together to remove a few .001"s from the bottom. That makes the impeller fit a bit tighter for more pressure.
