    Can anyone give me an estimate of a good paint job / gel coat ???

    I have a 1996 Ranger Comanche 461vs and it has a bad crack right in the middle of the graphics and the main color is all off because of the last guy that fixed it. He did a great job, just obviously different shade of white. Curious if it would be worth it to get a full redo of the paint and gel coat ?? What am I looking at ?? $2,000 ?? $6,000 ??? (More than I paid for the boat)
    Just curious. I think I can replace the carpet myself, but no way can I do a good paint job / gel coat.

    A complete re gel coating of the boat in a shop is going to be very expensive. labor involved will be really high. To do the entire hull right, the boat will have to be flipped over on its top. A lot of sanding involved. A good glass shop would probably be in the 3-4k range.

    Painting it is another process altogether. Same deal on the prep work though, lot of labor involved. Good epoxy paints can be expensive, and you need a self contained fresh air suit to spray . Competent Shops will get anywhere from $ 150.00 to
    $ 200.00 a foot to paint a boat.

    Is it possible to just do the side thats messed up ? Maybe save some money ??

    I know it might depend on the nature of the repair, but no major hull damage, just bad damage to the gel and paint.

    It's possible to " fix " anything on gel/glass. All according to what you want to pay for competent repairs. Matching gel coat colors, especially polyflake is time consuming and labor intensive, a lot of prep work and finish sanding is involved to get the mirror smooth finish.
    Gel coat does not spray like paint, it is not self leveling, when done on the outside of a hull in repair work it comes out with an orange peel texture and has to be finished off by sanding and compounding.
    When boats are built, the gel is sprayed into a highly polished glass mold that imparts the glass like finish to the gelcoat, not so on an outside repair.

    Best bet is to take it to a glass shop or auto body shop that does glass work
    ( corvettes ) and get an estimate for your area.
