    will it sand out?

do you think this will be able to be sanded out?

You can see next to the T/M how it looks and to feel it it feels kind of rough. I also had some thin scaling on the top around the edges that was washed off at the car wash by the previouse owner. I would realy like to make the old girl shine on a fixed budget. what do ya think? thanks. Rick

    Hi Water Ox,
Ranger does generally put a fairly hefty coat of the clear,so you may be lucky with that.
Test a small spot with 1500-2000 paper, and use a rubber sanding block at all times to help keep the surface level, use soapy water as a lube and be liberal with it,to keep the paper gliding smooth,if it begins to turn silverish where you are sanding, stop, you have gone to far,you must keep a close eye on that.
If you don't get it smoothed out prior to turning silver,it will need to be reshot with clear gel-coat to restore it.
The areas where you think it is fairly smooth will not need sanded, just rubbed out.
You will need a good variable speed 7" buffer.I do have one of the best fore sale for $150.00 shipped with 2 pads and a backing plate,if your interested in it I can email you some pics. There are some buffers out there for alot less money $40-50 range, but the Dewalt DW-849 that I have is near the top of the scale.I used it one time to do my boat just as your looking to do,and I don't think it will need done again, because I keep it in the garage, the truck sits out.
My email addy is in my profile, feel free to use to ask or make an offer.I'll see what I can do to help you out.

    Good Luck
