Hello All:
I'm in the process of removing the cable steering in my boat and was wondering what to pay attention too. The reason for the replacement is that, the final tourney last year the steering cables froze and i was only able to turn the boat to the left the whole tourney, I've tried to free it but had no chance so why not upgrade and right is the best time for it. From the planing process it does not looks to hard at all. The make and model of the boat and engine are 1993 ranger 482 v and Merc xr6 150 hp. I'm sure i will have a few more question once i get deep into the removing. I've been doing my research and everyone say that they all did it without any problems and or any modifications and once finished that i will enjoy the way it steer. Giving the information of my boat do you guys think that i will need to modify the dash panel...Im sure someone will come along and answer that for me, and if you could verify that the selection below is correct that would be awsome.
I've looking into the selection that seastar has and i came up with this package for my boat and engine...... Front Mount O/B Hydraulic Steering system, With Cylinder in kit is HC-5345, Hose Kit HA-5430 (16ft), Helm HH-5271. I what thinking of of tying some rope that i can tie to, when i start pull out the old cable so i can have mean of puilling the new hoses back to the motor. Has anyone ever done that differently.
What do i have to keep in mind when doing something like this....
Thatnks for your time
