Can you re-clear a poly flake hull?

Can a hull be re-clear coated? Once it has been wet sanded etc, I know clear is applied in the mold before the hull is cooked. But once it is gone and the hull wet sanded is there a specific clear coat that can be applied successfully that will last?

You can RE-GEL the hull. It is very expensive and labor intensive. Putting down new clear is usually a short term solution that someone will pay for down the line.

Clear gel coat can be sprayed on by someone that is very familiar with working with gel.....gel is not like paint, it is not self leveling so should be sprayed by a Pro that knows the ins/outs of glass work.

Clear gel coat will last a long time as it is the same material as the gel on the boat now.

Clear automotive finishes on the gel coat will look good but not last long.

clear gel can be sprayed...BUT!!!!!!!. here are the night mares of spraying it...
you need a large spray pot. 2 1/2 gallon is not uncomon.. and you will have to dril out the nozzel too handle the volume your going to spray fast.. spraying the top you have to work real fast..you will have aprox 20 minutes too spray it.. this is because you will be adding catalist in the gel just before you squirt it...then..in 20 minutes more or less it will harden up..(even in the spray pot !!!) other cemicals can retard the curing and also give it more shine.. such as styreen.. very hasards to your health.. good. luck

Yup......been splaining it to him in IM's...

If you do not have any experience in shooting gelcoat, it can make one helluva mess if everything is not measured/timed correctly.... the air temp/humidity has to be right also.
