How to replace a transom, please help.

Hey don't know where else to ask this, for once this isn't about my bass boat, it's about my duck boat. I have a 1448 lowe and the wood in the transom has rotted out. This boat is rivited (don't know about the spelling) and was wondering what the best way to replace the wood is. I guess I need to drill out those rivets, I have a rivet gun, anyone who has ever done this please help and chime in, I just don't want to mess something big up. Pictures would be great, the old rotten wood has lost all of its support and I worry if I smack something with outboard it will rip off the transom. Thanks guys I appreciate your advice

I'm not familiar with that boat, boat should be pretty straight forward .. nothing to glass in, most Alum boats just use pressure treated wood, maybe riveted in but could be held in with stainless steel bolts or screws. If you have a Lowe dealer in your area ask them what the best way to approach this is. If not contact Lowe they maybe able to tell you or direct you to a web site that can.

I would not undo rivets unless you are 100% sure that is what is holding in the transom, or you could comprise the structural integrity of the boat removing the wrong rivets, transoms are usually held in place by more than just everyday rivets.

The Bracket that holds the transom wood maybe riveted in but the wood is prob bolted in to that bracket
