How do I remove scuff's, etc. from White Gelcoat?

This isnt really a restoration question, more of a prevention question.

I have an 04 Ranger 519. The boat is mainly white gelcoat with black, red, gold and silver on the strips and gunnels. The white portion of the cap and interior is showing quite a few scuff marks from rod tips around the console, and also what looks like staining from mud, etc. in some area's. Most of it cleaned up with a good wash, but I want to buff the rest out before I wax the boat. So, what can I use to buff that stuff out w/out damaging the GelCoat? Also, what is a good wax to use to help prevent this stuff from happening?

Try the Meguirs line of cleaner waxes..
Depending on how bad the finish is , you could get by using the cleaner wax.

Any high carnauba wax will protect the gelcoat, but no wax is going to prevent many scuff marks, they will just make it easier to get them off the finish.

Just finished mine yesterday. Almost all white, sounds the same as mine. I used the Meguires line. It is progressive in stages, works well with power buffing tools. The cleaner wax left a nice shine. I used the medium on the top cap, fine to remove swirl marks, cleaner/wax to finish. Don't use the same foam pad for each stage. Be sure to completely wipe off between stages.

Try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Then wax. You'll be impressed.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser does the trick for me. The McGuires waxes work real well.

I just done my top cap and will be moving on to the hull. I used the 3 step sand and buff method and finished off with meguires...it's gonna look AWESOME!! My boat is 90% white gel with teal flake stripes. It's a lot of elbow grease but well worth the effort.

I use a product called Black Streak Remover that I also use on my fiberglass RV got it at wally world either in the camping section or marine section just spray on and wipe off. One of the few products that I have found that actually does what it claims as easy as it claims.

I've got a white Nitro and everything makes a mark or streak of some kind...especially rod tips against the consoles. So a friend tossed me a bottle of this stuff and I really couldn't believe the results. Stuff came off that I had fought to remove but couldn't.

If you can get your hands on it, definitely try it.
