Recarpeting-which weight to use?

I want to recarpet my '83 Procraft 1650V but I'm not sure which weight carpet will work. Does anyone know if I can use 20 oz. carpet and still be able to close my deck lids? Has anyone recarpeted an old boat? If so, what weight carpet worked best?

I recarpeted a 92 Procraft a couple of years ago. I believe it was the original carpet, which was probably 16 oz. I replaced it with 20 oz. carpeting. The lids were a little tighter, but I didn't have any problems closing them.

You can always trim the carpet around the lip, if you have interference problems.

Just got thru putting 20 oz in my '96 Stratos tonight. It looked to have 16 originally. The lids on my boat were tight with the old carpet and this new carpet didn't make a bit of difference. I am going to shave some of my lids that are still tight with clippers (dog clippers from WallyWorld) and let it go. I do know that you will like standing on the 20oz better. Also my dad put 20oz in a '86 model Astroglass that is probably alot like the one you are fixing to do. (Procraft and Astroglass split off in '87 or '88 and became Astro and Procraft). Any how good luck.
