    gel coat spraying

I have repaired a area on my boat and want to temporarily spray with gel coat to protect fiberglass & repair the flake this winter. Some in below water line. I sprayed a hull on previous bass boat, we thinned with acetone, sprayed 3-4 coats one after the other. No sanding aid or drying agent on last coat & turned out perfect. (After finishing) I have read other forums that say not to use acetone as thinner, must use drying agent, must wait hours between coats, what is the truth ???? Please help, Please stay with my question,,GC
