    Resin Questions

Hi folks. I know a lot of you have replaced floors and built deck extensions. I am planning a deck extension project, but I am having trouble calculating amount of resin I will need. The deck will be roughly 3.5' x 4.5' with kick board 1' x 3'. I plan on using plywood for the deck and kickboard and figure I need to resin the stuff both sides and all edges a couple of coats. Will a gallon suffice or should I plan on ordering 1.5 gallon. Any left over will probably never get used before shelf life expires and I don't want a bunch of hazardous waste to dispose of down the road. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You could always start with a gallon and order additional, if needed. Otherwise, I think 1.5 gallons will be adequate.

I agree that the 1.5 gallons SHOULD be enough, but you don't want to skimp on the amount of resin you are using. When I repaired my boat last year I used 7 gallons of the stuff and I know how frustarting it was when I ran out of resin in the middle of a job.

A good idea is to call around town to find a dealer that is near that carries resin before you start your repairs. Home Depot was a savior for me as they were only 5 minutes from the house and carried resin by both the quart and gallon.

Good Luck with the deck. If you have any questions or problems, there is plenty of experience that frequent this board. All you need to do is ask.
