    Carpet Replacement

For all of you restore gurus out there -

I'm going to recarpet my Javelin this spring (I have the carpet already) and was trying to figure out how to mark the existing holes in the front dect for the rod tiedown straps that are in the deck. I want to reuse the existing holes instead of punching a new set, but I can't figure out how to mark them once the carpet is down. Perhaps a small strand of wire that would punch thru the carpet when I lay it, or something else??

    Suggestions please?

Fill 'em and drill 'em! It you want, they're pretty easy to find with an awl or ice pick, after the carpet is down.

A.J.'s right!! I've recarpeted 5 boats now and the icepick trick works great. Take
very precise measurements 1st. You don't want to punch any more holes in your
new carpet than you have to.

You can measure then use electric tape to mark where you measured from. It is just as easy to fill them with silicone or marinetex then redrill the holes. That is what I did when i redid mine.

Yes I fish Deerpoint. Pretty good lake year round. My Biggest on deerpoint this year was 5#. I like to fish Apalachicola River, seem to catch more fish. Biggest on the river was just over 7#.

My wife and I usually vacation once or twice a year down at the beach. Was thinking about hauling the boat down once to try out Deer Pointe. Had a guy on the Florida Sportsmans forum tell me to concentrate on Bear Creek. Does anyone down there have topo maps of the lake?

Lake is pretty easy to run, no topo maps. When you come down get in touch with me and I'll be glad to take you. If the water is right the river is the better place to go.
