fishing is tuff in this state.our waters are beat to death and we have no regulations.yes there are good fish to catch, but how often does that happen.yes someone always catches them.but anymore it seems like it is hard to even catch a dink.fishing seems to be consistantly getting worse in this state year after year.![]()
Fishing is bad due to many things that our DNR could change. The first thing that should be done is to impose a 12 inch size limit to cut down on the mortality rate from these small club tournaments that have a 10 fish, no size limit. I used to belong to one of these clubs and it was unbelievable the fish that would die in the hot summer tournaments. A size limit would help. The second thing is to provide a supplemental stocking program, especially for the rivers, so when we have a flood in the spawn season, the DNR could step in and stock to compensate for the lost year of fry. They should also stock some kind of forage for the fish to eat. A couple of years ago the DNR got a grant to stock fish in the Kanawha and they stocked stergeon. They are not reconizing where the economic benefits of fishing are. Trout fisherman, for instance, they carry all of their fishing tackle in a little green bag, they buy no boat gas, they rarely stay all night in hotel rooms, but the state sees to it that they have stocked fish to catch. Dont get me wrong, I like a to catch trout as much as the next one, but I carry thousands of dollars worth of fishing tackle in my boat that was bought in WV. I buy 150 dollars worth of gas a weekend to fish, and many times I stay in hotel rooms when I fish tournaments. I figured that when the West Virginia Bass Federation rolls into town for a Buddy Trail Tournament it boosts the local economy by 20,000 dollars. You cant get that kind of return out of walleye, trout, catfish, or especially STERGEON. It shouldnt be this hard to catch fish in this state. I've fished hard all year, and cashed a couple of checks, but I Cant Say That It Was Fun. All the states that border West Virginia have great fishing, and Its time we learned from them. It aint fishing pressure, because Yatesville Lake in Kentucky is awesome, and it is fished to death, but with the fishing pressure that we have in this state, you cant build a lake, stock it once, and forget about it, and that about what is happening. Thats Just My Oppinion![]()
No Doug it came from lake Erie . And Gidzit sums up whats going on in our state, he talks about the trout, I have heard of stories of guys that live in the trout stream areas, they chase the stock trucks, catch there limit then go home, git rid of the fish and go back again to catch there limit time and time again. And as for Erie it great up there, I had no idea how nice it would be there, no milk jugs or old tires floating around in the lake, very clean place and the ramps are great , no having to try and get in and out of your boat on concrete steps or rocks, the have very nice docks with rubber bumber strips. And our catch and release lakes are a Joke whos seeing that the fish are released, I have never seen anyone checking. But have seen fish on stringers. And where does the money go that we pay to launch? So I guess if we do not agree, go else where and fish, because nothing is ever done here. [IMG][/IMG]
