After traveling out of Texas lately competing in the WBT events, I was able to find 4 days to return to my beloved Falcon Lake, and what a trip it was. My customer was able to land his personal best on of all days Friday the 13th, she weighed in at 8.26. I have seen better looking fish, but she was still a looker for sure. She was blind in one eye, had half of her tail and was pretty beat up from the spawn, but still was hungry and bit for my client. The lake is approximately 26 ft low and going down daily, water temp is 74. Fish are being caught in 8-10 ft of water on main lake points in the trees on a variety of baits. We had some bites on spinnerbaits, crankbaits and plastics. The best bait however for our trip was the Strike King Z2 in watermelon red rigged Texas style. We had several break off in the trees as these fish are the smartest fish I have ever pursued, you have to get them turned and headed your way before they wrap you up, and you need to spool up with braided line. We had several days of 30+ fish, just plain ole good 3-4 lb fish. Friday was our best day with temps soaring to 97 degrees, alot of wind out of the north upwards of 40 mph hampered our patterns on Saturday but got back on them on Sunday to end a wonderful trip to my beloved lake.![]()
Now I am off in a couple weeks to Lake Guntersville, Alabama for the 3rd leg of competition for the WBT, but will be available for trips on Choke Canyon and Falcon Lake in May. Good Fishing and may you land the lunker you pursue.![]()
