I got there just before daylight, and fished until dark. I started out throwing a white spinnerbait with painted blades around the islands north of I-10. I jerked one small bass out the water when he hit it. I didn't get any more action until after 0830.
I moved down river past the Alternate 90 bridge. I caught several fish within a couple hundred yards of bank line. Not all were bass. I counted 4 different species. By 0930, I had caught a couple of each species, mostly on the Tiny T.
I moved around a lot, checking the place out. The fish there also seemed to be suspended about 4-6 ft. down, but most were close to the channel drop-off. My biggest largemouths were caught next to isolated standing timber on the drop-off. The biggest spots were caught up river past the I-10 bridge in shallower water.
My best pattern was to slow-roll small spinnerbaits over the drop-offs. Although I caught my biggest largemouth and spot on a T-rig finesse worm, the spinnerbait produced the most fish.
This is a very nice place to fish. This river is loaded with bass. I haven't caught anything big out of this river yet, but I know the potential is there. The water looks nice, and the scenery is awesome! I'd really like to fish there again.![]()

I don't know what it is, but I caught one of these ugly little things too:
