I fished the district 13 ABA out of Ivy Hill last Sat..Went up Friday to take a look around (sunny and a little breeze) ..Started Fri near the ramp fishing top water, and immediatly caught fish, so that is pretty much is what I stuck with all day. Between the senko and splash-it I had about 10 fish all over 14 inches, along with missing about a 6-7 pounder that blew up on the splash-it at about 230 in the afternoon.. The same pocket I missed the big fish, I saw a 5 pounder sitting in a foot of water, I threw everything I could think of and the fish would not even turn to the bait..like it was in post spawn or something don't know..I left it for the next day..
Then came Sat. Totaly different day (cloudy and windy), I started with top water, and caught a dink within the first few casts. I stayed with it till I saw 2 good fish follow it out and not strike, no matter how I fished it..then I made myself put it down. I picked up a senko and started fishing anything I could see in the shallow water, and picked up my biggest fish about 3 pounds in a foot of water on some brush. I threw a spinnerbait on wind blown sandy points and picked up 2 more over 14 inches. After I caught my limit and culled one of my 13 inchers I went back to find the 5 pounder I saw Fri, sure enough it was still there, unbelivable I thought, and still would not hit anything, I spent an hour on it and nothing, (mindblowing)..I finally gave up, and went back close to the ramp to a sand point I started the day at. The sun finally came out and I picked up the top water again. Second cast had a nice 4-5 pounder knock it completly out of the water, didn't hook up..I ended the day with 5 fish for 9.45 pounds to take 4th place, I couldn't get rid of my 13 inch dink fish that would have moved me up a little and either of those fish would have put me over the top, but I got a good start for the 07 season..All I can say to the BFL fellas comming this weekend, is the 2-3 inch shad were so thick in the back of the pockets that I could have literally walked on top of them and not gotten wet..I covered quite a bit of water, hitting what I thought were key areas, back of small pockets, sand points, and shallow water cover near those areas..All the fellas I spoke with caught their fish shallow...
GL to all the BFL folks it ought to be a good one since it's colling off a bit....
