Syracuse

I may be changing jobs soon and hope to get some info on fishing in the area. Although I will spend half my time in the Syracuse area, I will also need to get around to Utica, Binghamton, Ithica, and Elmira. That means I can buy a house anyplace in the area.

Maybe the first question to ask is if any of the lakes in the area are bad for fishing? I saw someplace that one of the lakes had a major kill a couple of years ago (maybe Skaneateles?) and wouldn't want the place closest to me to have problems.

The other big question involves whether to buy a house on a lake, or figure there are so many good spots that I would want to trailer to different places frequently.

Anything else about the area that can help?

You'll be within an hour of Oneida and that lake right in Syracuse is supposed to have some good bass fishing in it now. Used to be one of the most poluted lakes in the country tho

The lake right in Syracuse is Onondaga Lake. I heard this year that Onondaga has declined big time as a fishery compared to 3-4 years ago. Not sure what is going on but I would imagine it should rebound.

ya lots of construction and dredging has made the place verrrrrrry difficult to fish in pass years.

oneida is probably the best bass and walleye fishing lake in NY, if u dont count Erie
