New motor, hows it work?

Just got a new boat after having the same boat for 25 years. The old boat had a 79 Johnson 85 on it. To start it, one had to lift the warmup lever and push in the key for choke when cranking. Simple...

New boat has a 2000 Evinrude 115 FICHT. This setup does not appear to have a choke or warmup lever. Do the new four strokes need to warmup at high RPM or do you just turn the key and go? I should mention that there is a push button in the middle of the throttle stick pivot point, but I havent figured out if its the "warmup button" or not. If I push it in and move the throttle down, it stays in, and pops back out when moved to neutral. My buddy has something similar to it, but its on a MerCruiser, and I dont think he has to squeeze the trottle stick to move it down.... little help?

The Ficht motors are fuel injected and are EMM controlled you do not choke them or increase idle speed. However you should let it warm up before you take off.

The FICHT motors are 2 stroke motors not 4 strokes. They require gas and oil mixed and the mixing happens at the motor. You will have a oil tank and a gas tank in the boat. 4 strokes don't and the motors are just like what we have in our cars.

The button on the control is to put the motor in neutral to bring up the rpms. You can think of this as a fast idle like what you had on your old motor. To choke it, which you should not have to do unless maybe it is really cold out, you press in the key as you turn it over to start and it will choke the motor. At least that is how it works on my carbed motor.

The Fichts do not mix oil and fuel, oil is directly injected to the block while fuel is directly injected to the combustion chamber. The ficht has an electric fuel pump, turn the switch on and listen for the pump to quit running, turn key and crank....voila, no choking, no fuss!!

I can imagine... but the Johnson was very reliable. It sat for 5 yrs until last summer and started right up.

Does the oil have to be filled regularly or does it cycle through like a regular engine? And is what the previous poster said about the button (fast idle) true?

Yes you have to maintain the proper level of oil in the tank, however you will use much less oil than previously. If you don't have a hot foot, the button will disengage the gear case and let you advance the throttle. Remember, with the ficht, you do not have to advance the throttle to crank, that will mess with the tps and not let it run normal until the engine is at idle.

So is there any time where I would need to advance the throttle, or is it likely just a "generic" throttle stick that will work with any OB? It doesnt have any Evinrude logos on it.
