I posted this in the lounge. I thought I'd share this with you guys as well.
Growing up, my son was a extremely bright kid but a poor student. He was smart enough to skate by without putting out any effort. He was also a very good athlete, but again, he made teams with his athleticism, not his work ethic. After graduating high school he tried a semester at a local community college. That didn't work out too well. After that he was accepted at a very expensive private school. He spent a year there with only slightly better results.
We recently had a long talk about his future and what options he had. We decided to go talk to a recruiter just to see what was available to him. He liked what he heard about the educational benefits so one week later he walked in cold to take the ASVAB test. He ended up scoring a 94. Last night he went down to Boston where they put him up for the night to give him his physical. He just called me and said, "guess what Dad, I'm a soldier".
He said he didn't want to wait. They have already scheduled him for basic at Fort Benning and then 6 months training at fort Gordon for Satellite Communications.
I am so proud of him.![]()
