    Monomonac...

To say it was windy out there today would have been an understatement. It was brutal (well, for me anyways). I struggle in the wind, and today was no exception. While I was mainly out there to do some scouting and find spots, that also meant I was supposed to find fish in those spots to let me know if they're good or not. On the water at 7:00am, off at 11:30am...zero fish.

Fred (GreatGrampa), I tried the spinnerbait. I REALLY tried....but I struggled. Everything about it felt wrong, which I know will go away in time, and with a couple of fish, but the whole time I was throwing it, it didn't feel right. But, I persevered, knowing that's what I should be doing out in the wind, and I didn't even get a single hit on it. Just not my day for the spinnerbait.

My buddy caught 1 smallie on the c-rig off of a hump out in the northern end of the lake. I marked about 10 different areas to check out, but I'm not feeling too good about this. Going to try to get out at least one more time this week, again on Saturday, and then I'll be there on Sunday.

Did you get to learn the lake? It's not the kind of place to open it up for a long run. Ma waters is almost all no wake. At least you have an idea of where the rocks are. Did anyone mention the water level? I'm sure that Fred(aka Jazz...aka greatgrampa) can find some time to go spinnerbait tossing with you...next July.

Ya, I did get to learn the lake. Found where the prop busters were. Had no idea what the speed limit, if any, was. I just idled around, checking the depth finder, looking everywhere, til I found someone else blasting around. Saw a couple of ski boats come out full bore later in the morning, driving like that everywhere, so I figured I would be OK to go on plane, but didn't break 25mph.

Place wasn't as hazardous as I thought it was going to be, but it's not as nice as some other lakes. As far as water level, it wasn't that bad, looked to be about 6"-10" down at the most.

The biggest thing about that place is how weedy it is. There was hardly a spot on the lake where the bottom wasn't covered in crap, which made fishing c-rigs and jigs nearly impossible. Found some spots where it was just muddy bottom with some grass, and some rocky spots, so I'm hoping that I can find some fish there come this weekend. Like I said earlier, I hope to get back out there sometime this week to do some more driving around and find some solid spots to have for the weekend.

Beats me, forgot to look at the sign to double check before I took off. But I would agree that I don't think there is one. Judging by the water skiers, there isn't.

The only waters with speed limits in NH are winni and squam. MA has a statewide limit of 45(?) that no one observes or seems to enforce.

I thought Newfound and Winnisquam had one also? Thought they were locally enforced speed limits.

Here are your lakes and restrictions. Happy reading!

    http://www.nh.gov/safety/divis....html

I think there are only two with speed limits, Squam and Winnipesaukee. I think! But after you read the above link info I am sure you will correct me if I am wrong!

Will be waiting for your timely report!

Nope, you're right. No speed limits on Winnisquam or Newfound. Someone told me there was, either my Dad or a friend, can't remember. And I err on the side of caution and the safe side of things.

So...let me get this straight.....you can only go a maximum of 45 mph on Winni, the biggest lake in the state....with an open water area the size of the second biggest lake in the state.....but I can go (if my boat could) 80mph on, for example, Mononomac, if I chose to? A 700 acre lake, with probably only 400 acres of safe 'driving on plane' area? Interesting...something about that seems wrong.

It's all about PO's (property owners)!
    Who has the most money?

Give it time. I think within 4 to 6 years there will be a statewide speed limit on the water.

And think about this! You can pass me within 3 feet of each other driving your motor vehicle pulling your bass boat at 70 MPH on the highway. Make sense!

Keep your fingers crossed that the weather holds out on Sunday. WMUR, for now, says upper 60's with a sunny start, then increasing clouds late with a chance of showers, especially in Western NH.....go figure.
