nh bass and I have been fishing Ossipee over the last month or so getting ready for a mid-week and USA Bassin tournament. He went down two days and only had one fish. Three Sundays ago we went down with a friend and fished hard for almost 8 hours. We zeroed (nhbass lost a nice one drop dragging a dropoff, but that was it). Returned two Sundays ago, same 3 guys, and "junk fished" all day. Caught a few, but no size and certainly nothing to inspire confidence. WE felt we were in the right areas, but no action. nh bass decided not to do the mid-week because we just couln't put anything together and we could save some $$.
Heard the mid-week results (18 something won it, 3rd was 16.89) and nhbass was depresssed. I was too, but wasn't telling him that!
Anyways, we stuck to our guns, fished prettty much the same places (cut out a few) and ended up with a 13.89 lb bag good enough for 2nd place at the USA Bassin event. First place was 15.89, but third was 3 lbs behind us, so it was a tough bite for a lot of good anglers.
Lunker was a 4.74 smallie caught off the Pine River with a spinnerbait first thing in the morning. nhbass and I weighed a 4.70 smallie that we caught on top water early. 4/10's of an ounce cost us $120 bucks! Oh well, it was a great day and it taught us to stick to our guns and dig down...If you've ever been on Ossipee on a weekend you'll know the sh%#tshow that place is on weekends in the summer...and this one was a classic...musta been a pontoon boat convention!
