    Kissimmee Chain - 6/7/09

Seems like running water is key right now with all the rain we've been getting.

Every canal with running water had tons of bass boats and locals (one guy caught a huge catfish right next to us as we trolled on by.) Cypress and Kissimmee had the majority of the bass boats at the mouths where the running water had bass moving up to feed. The majority of the bass seemed to be taken on carolina rigs and traps.

We (me and a buddy) had a good day just fun fishing. I got to use a carolina rig for the first time and I had success with it (always good to try new things and have it work!!)

The flipping bite wasnt as strong as I've heard lately, but I'm sure some guys caught lots of weight flipping.

I'll post up as much as I can when Im out.

I called my stockbroker and asked him what I should be buying.
He said, \"Canned goods and ammunition\".

went out and fished the chain again.... in the Gambler Tourny. We had a decent day for a couple rookies on a boat named "pork chops sandwiches" (my tracker.)

We boated 12.55 on a two part strategy: We threw carolina rigs in the Kissimmee River and caught a limit pretty quick (small fish though.) Then we ran to Cypress to flip the rest of the day and picked up two nicer fish (4lb10oz and 3lbs9oz.)

Overall we had a good day and others had big days as well. There were tons of big bass (7lbs+) weighed in, many coming from flipping grass on Toho (allllot of fish caught on gambler aces and mega daddies.) The running water bite that was hot 2 weeks ago has died down with the lack of rain...only 10oz to 1.5lb fish were caught by us and those around us.

The event had its rough parts, but there were over 200 boats and I learned alot and had a great time.

Anyone else on here fish it?

Yep, me and a buddy fished it and caught a bunch of fish flippin. our big fish was 4 + lbs. I chose not to fish the runnin water that had been producing the last couple weeks because I knew a lot of people would be pounding it. We fished south in kiss. and caught em all day. 1st & 2nd place both had over 26# and big fish was over 9#. Personaly I did not care for the take off procedure and weigh in schedule. But overall had a great day w/ a great friend.

I would have liked to see flights with that many boats next time.

I talked to several guys who had luck on the south end of Kissimmee, i need a faster boat to make runs like that though.

Are the locks to Toho open? I was told by a good friend that they were closed for a couple of weeks for maintenance? I did not run up there and check..... Can anyone give some hints on the flipping fish on Kissimmee? I was there this weekend for a small club tourney and could not find a flipping bite, I tried the reeds on the NE Point in Hatchineha, as well as the south end of Kissimmee and a few areas in between, don't know if I was in the wrong spot or throwing the wrong bait but any clue would be great.
I ended up winning the club tourney with 9.5lbs, but would have liked to have caught a few bigger fish. Just trying to figure out what I did wrong....

    Re: Kissimmee Chain - 6/7/09 (Hookset41a)

the locks opened back up on the 12th of June so you should be good now.

as for flipping, i couldnt help you there too much. i saw alot of guys flipping the outside grass line on kissimmee and heard of others flipping mats on the south end, but you know how that goes, i wasnt doing it so i couldnt really offer up much help!

    congrats on the win though.
