    Stop and Go!

I put a new Ignition Module on a 97 Ficht 150. It fired right up. Started out between 1500 and 2500 rpm. for a few min. Got to 3000 and it was like 3000 stop 2900 go. Never lost power. Idle and started like new. What's up?

Why did you replace the pack in the first place? Was the electric eye replaced with it, as recommended?

Have you determined that it is not a fuel delivery problem?

    Re: Stop and Go! (SEAHORSE)

It was hooked up at a dealer and they told me that was what was wrong with it. After I replaced it I had the problem as mentioned above and called the dealer and they told me it could be fuel but the high speed stator kicks in at about 3000 rpm. I have checked fuel lines. Was looking for a second oppinion about stator and possible price. I want to do the work if I can. Eye not replaced.

Damn, I screwed up and gave you incorrect information. I was thinking carbed motor, not FICHT for some reason. Most likely my morning caffeine had not kicked in yet.

A '97 FICHT has both an ignition module (very expensive) and an ECU that controls timing and ignition. There is also a possibility that the 24 volt system is not working correctly, often the fault of the power distribution panel.

It is best to find a trained FICHT tech with fuel pressure gauges, a fuel vacuum gauge, a laptop with diagnostic software, service manual, and the knowledge of how a FICHT operates. Good luck.

You have to understand that there is a difference between lack of knowledge and lack of caffeine, especially early in the morning for old farts like me and Melvin (A persnickety old man)

I was afraid you might say that. Is there a stator and a high speed stator or is there just one?............. I need a shop manual.

There are 3 separate windings on the stator, all of them are switched to a series circuit by the EMM when starting and at low speed. The EMM then electrically switches them to a parallel circuit for more amperage as the motor accelerates.

Not knowing all does that pertain to an ECU system as well? Good info.

I better elaborate a bit, the '97 and '98 FICHTS have a 2 stage - 3 phase charging system with their multi-wound stators. Those motors run 12 and 24 volt systems thru separate circuits on the external regulator/rectifier. It gets confusing with all the model year changes, then the mid-year changes, then the design changes to make a generalized statement. The EMM models, including E-TEC, have everything regulated, rectified, and switched inside the EMM.
