Has anyone been on Smith Lake lately? I have never been there and was thinking of going over and camping out for a few days and enjoy the weather. I have been told it is deep, clear and has a lot of spotted bass but that is about it.

I don't fish Smith very often any more but I fished a club tournament there last Saturday. Caught a bunch of small spots on a watermelon trick worm on a shaky-head and a few on a 1/4 oz green pumpkin jig. There is a slot limit on the lake, you can't keep anything between 13 - 15 in. I only caught one fish over the slot, 2 or 3 in the slot, and probably a dozen or more under 13in. Look for rock slides on the bluff banks or brush tops and laydowns on steep banks. Most of the reports for Smith said the fish were hitting topwaters real good but we didn't have any luck with a spook or buzzbait. Must have been in the wrong location.
