    Lake Weiss

I have a tourney in mid-January on Lake Weiss in Alabama. I have never heard of this lake before from any bass anglers. I know a guy who knows a guy that fishes down there alot but he's retired and only goes crappie fishing. He doesn't know anything about bass fishing in Jan. on Weiss. If anyone knows anything, please gimme a number or post so I can talk with you. You don't have to give me your "money-holes" or anything, just some general info would be great.

Re: Lake Weiss (Red Ranger Haskins)

have fished this lake many times mid january the bass should be suspended on 5ft ledges. They can be caught using a pink/white beetle spin, or chartreuse lizards. Also they can be caught trolling using a no. 5 shad rap in shad color.

Can you give me some area of the lake to concentrate on... like a name (example: like Goose Pond on Guntersville)? I know NOTHING about this lake.

The first thing you will need to do at Weiss in January is buy a map of some type. That lake will be about 4-6ft below summer pool for the winter drawdown. It would scare you to death to know what lies beneath that water. There are many props and lower units on the bottom there!!! If you get out of the main river be very careful. In January I would focus on Yellow Creek and the Powerhouse lake on the lower end of the lake. Yellow Creek typically stays pretty clear. This lake is better known for Crappie so most piers have some brush around them somewhere. If you get lucky and have a few warm days just before you fish it could be good. If it is cold it could also be very tough and slow. This lake has some good largemouth and also many big spots.
