    Lay Lake/ Logan Martin

I have fished the Tennessee River my whole life and have recently moved to B'ham. I can't seem to figure out the Coosa River. I fished the BBC So. AL club tournament last week on Logan Martin and only caught two fish. One of them came off a pier in clear creek on baby brush hawg and the other came on a Mann's 20+ on the underwater point going into that creek right above I20 bridge. I made it down to Lay today and it was more of the same. Fished from Paradise all the way down to the dam. I tried the grass and points and only managed one spot on a chigger craw at the mouth of Waxahatchee creek. I believe I am going to have to make some new friends down here so someone can help me figure out these lakes. They look like they would fish similar to Pickwick or Wilson lakes, but obviously they do not.

Hey there I fished with Rick last weekend at that event, it was a slow day, we managed probably around 12-15 bites, but had some poor execution and caught a bunch that would just miss the 12 inch mark. The main thing to remember is this is the dead middle of summer and the fishing is slow through out the entire coosa chain. The main key to the coosa river bass is CURRENT, when they are pulling water, thats the time to be out there fishing, generally a few hours each weekday AM then again around 5-630 at night. Learn to fish a shakey head or a Trigged trick worm and fish either the ledges or find the grass that has deeper water nearby. Another month and those lakes will begin the fall transition and the fishing will vastly improve. On LM find docks that have 8-10 feet of water off the end of them on those sunny days when there is little to no water movment or find some deeper grass beds.
