Just curious as to which Revo is the most popular with the ppl here. I am trying to decide on which one to purchase so figured I'd do a poll! I want an MGX but that's out of the question at this time.

I've owned all of them, and the Premier is the best. The STX is a fine reel also, and the S is a great workhorse reel.
The MGX is the best Revo hands down. But for the money, its had to beat the value of the SX. Send me a message if you are looking to buy one, may be able to help you out.
Thanks for all the input, I own 2 SX's at the moment and have been extremely happy with the way they perform and I just can't imagine anything better. Bad thing is if I get a premier or an STX and they ARE better then I will wind up spending more to replace what I have!! So I am happy with the SX so probably just gonna stick with it but just wanted other opinions and when I get the $$ I will upgrade. bplgocards, will send IM.
Thanks,
Jason
I love my SX's. I've also got a Premier, Winch, and an S.
There is a decent difference to me between the S and SX...enough to justify the price difference. But i can't justify the extra money for anything more than the SX. I love'em and the Premier doesnt seem like an improvement to me. Yes it's lighter...but...meh.

Thanks for that comment, that is the issue I have been worrying about whether or not the STX or Premier is worth the extra $$ over the SX because to me it's a fantastic reel on it's own. Think my minds made up and I am just gonna stick with the SX.
Thanks,
Jason
I used to run all revo stx's and premiers they are great reels. I recently bought an mgx and it is a awesome reel as well. Ive switched to all shimano since then but for the money i really liked the stx reels i owned fifteen of them and they never did give me a problem.
To me (and my opinion isn't worth that much) I feel the SX is the best deal going, if it were a bit lighter it would be perfect. I have 4-5 S's, 4 SX's, a winch, and 2 Premiers and although the Premier is by far the "best" of the 4 styles I own, the SX is not 100 bucks behind it in quality by any stretch, it's just a little heavy compared to the Premier.
Now if you're pitching heavy jigs, the premier shines above all of them to me but for everything else, the SX does it just as well with just a tiny bit more weight.

I have a sx, stx, premier, and a winch. The winch is great, but is limited to 5-1 gears. It's a very smooth reel and casts well. It is my pic for deep cranks, and swimbaits.
For a more general purpose reel, stx all the way. I like it as much or more than my premiers, and I think it is a fair step above the sx.
The OP is asking which is the best non-MGX revo. Not the best value, but which is best. I don't think there's any question the Premier is the run away winner. I have a current generation SX and it can't hold a candle to any of my 4 current generation Premiers. The STX is a great reel, but the Premier is the same reel only quite a bit lighter.
I have a deck full of Steez, Core, Curado, Calais DC, Calcutta's and Premiers. In the low profile reels, the Premier is just hard to beat. It is smooth as silk ALL the time. Silent when you cast, silent when you retrieve it, NO gear feel at all, extremely flexible and easy to use dual braking system, etc. Just a wonderful reel to own.

Interesting thread, as I just totally disassembled an stx and an sx. side by side.
There are some noticeable differences, but BOTH are horses and are built like a damn tank.
I was just looking through a catalogue the other day wondering what the differences were and if they were enough to justify the higher prices and how much of that is just marketing and branding to get people to spend the extra money. When you look at the specs of the three reels side by side (S, SX, STX) there doesn't appear to be much on paper anyways.
S:
-Cräftic aluminum alloy frame and sideplate
Eight stainless steel ball bearings + one corrosion-resistant roller bearing
Carbon Matrix Drag system generates up to 24 lbs. of drag
 Duragear brass gear
 Oversized main gear
SX
Built for whipping up on heavyweights
X-Cräftic aluminum alloy frame and sideplate
10 stainless steel bearings plus 1 Instant Anti-Reverse bearing
 Precision machined Duragear brass gears
 Carbon Matrix Drag system
 Linear Magnetic Brake System
STX
 Sleek, ultra-low profile
X-Cräftic alloy frame and side plate
Externally adjustable hybrid magnetic/centrifugal brake system
10 stainless steel bearings plus 1 Instant Anti-Reverse bearing
 Infini II Spool design
 Carbon Matrix DragÂ
 Duragear brass gears
and here is the Premier
9 stainless steel HPCR® ball bearings
 Corrosion-resistant Instant Anti-Reverse bearing
 X-Cräftic corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy frame
 Carbon Matrix Drag System
 Aircraft-grade aluminum spool
 Infini Brake design
 Infini II spool design
 Flat EVA knobs
I'm not familiar with the S.
The biggest difference between the SX and STX is the dual braking. And that's a very worthwhile upgrade for only $30 at MSRP. Really makes the reel far more versatile and easy to setup.
The biggest difference between the STX and the Premier is weight. The STX is almost 9 ounces where the Premier is 6.7. Lighter is expensive in the baitcaster world, at least when it's done right like in the Premier. Is 2.2 ounces a big deal? Personal call, of course. But think about holding 2 1/4oz of lead in your hand in addition to your reel all day. Makes a difference at the end of the day for most of us.

I use to love the STX until the new Premiers came out. As the others have said its much lighter which is a plus at least to me. When you fish all day you will be surprised with the difference in weight. I'm also a firm believer that in some fishing styles a lighter set up is more sensitive.
I did recently trade one of my Premiers for 2 "S" series. I found that on a flipping stick....weight didnt matter and I just wanted a strong drag and a reel that I didn't mind beating up a little.
Whichever way you go, the abu garcia and revo brand seem like quality choices. Make sure you take advantage of the rebates that are (usually) out there. Bass pro and cabelas do a good job of advertising this. 30$ off an SX or STX really makes these a good choice. Plus the ability to get a sweatshirt/jersey, etc, for a small handling fee is nice as well. During the bass pro reel trade in, i usually get a new reel or two. This year a new revo sx and a hoodie will cost me like 110$.![]()
The Revo Winch is a 4:6:1 and not a 5:4 i do believe. i have one for musky fishing and its too slow for bass. great for pulling #10 blades thou.
I really appreciate all of the suggestions and opinions, the more I read really helps me out in making my decision. More than likely just gonna settle with another SX but still thinking about an STX... I am just afraid that if I do go with the Premier then it will make me not like my SX's then I wind up having to spend more $$ upgrading to all Premiers!
Oh and the regular Revo Winch is 5.4:1 but the Toro Winch is 4.6:1 and I am just going to pass on a low speed reel for now since I can be more versatile with a 6.4.
Thanks,
Jason
Got three SX's (Pitch/Flip), 3 Revo Winches(cranking). . . great reels IMO . .

A month and a half later, but I'll throw my 2 cents into the pot for good measure. I own 1 SX, 2 STXs and 2 Premiers. For the money, I don't think you can beat the SX. Besides that, I've torn the handle off both of my premiers on hooksets and they seem to need frequent lube jobs.
