    Quantum Tour PT question

For the first time after watching a few "how to videos" I took apart my Tour Edition PT TE1170PT reel to do a good cleaning. It came apart smoothly (except for losing a bearing retaining spring) and went back together nicely. Next up was my tour pt TE1160PT reel, after removing the 2 small screws and the long one from the inside I pulled and pried to take the handle side plate off, NO GO. I stuck a screw driver in and tried prying it but it still never came loose. I inspected it and didn't see any other screws. Am I missing something?

On the parts schematic on the Quantum Website I believe you need to remove the screw #23 (it is called side cover screw. there are two screws where the spool goes, the long one and then this small screw at the front of the reel that is hard to see without removing most of the parts at the front including the hood to get at it.

That screw must have been missing from your other reel in order for you to get it apart.

I think on those models you have two on the frame side...spool plate. There is one on gear side...#23...

Re: Quantum Tour PT question (xranger77)

Thanks guys. The handle side cover does have 4 screws total. The last little screw was hidden and of course it took 10 minutes to figure out how to get the front face off and out of my way. According to the schematic I'm missing a washer here and there. Anyways thanks for the help, the reel is slick and smooth and again.

Glad you got it. Poor design IMO. New models are much easier to take a part.

Re: Quantum Tour PT question (xranger77)

alright, got my 3 PT energies and my 2 tour editions all cleaned and oiled. On top of that I upgraded to ceramic bearings in 3 of my curados. Thanks for the help everyone. Next question, all 5 quantums listed above were missing 1 or both flat washers that go underneath the star drag assembly. #59 and #62. Both happen to be the same part #ZW032-01. I ordered a few new washers and put them in. What is curious to me is that even though 3 of the reels were bought on BBC, 2 were purchased brand new and I had never disassembled that far before. Are they necessary? I noticed now that a couple of the drags don't loosen up as much as before.

They are...but reel will work without them.
