    For you epoxy guys

i purchased some bob smith 30-min slow cure epoxy to test vs devcon 30-min
the results for me was the new epoxy had about double the working time vs devcon
it also seemed to smooth out much better baits were drying quicker and gave a cleaner finish than devcon honestly i havent used any devcon since i used it on all my new lures i posted here no fish eyes or bubbles what so ever give it a try

most hobby shops carry this lot of good deals on ebay too.
just passing this along saw some reviews on TU and they were right

Weird. I just started to use the same stuff.

Mine was packaged for Hobby Town USA but says Bob Smith Industries on the back in small lettering.

Bob Smith packages this stuff under house names for many local hobby shops. I've used the various drying time version for years on model airplanes. I've been using it recently on the rods I build for myself and it works great.

Does this stuff have any amber tint to it? Some exopies say on package dries clear or dries with amber tint. Looked on MSI web site and info there does not say. You said it gave cleaner finish than DC but not sure if that includes clearer (no tint). Thanks for sharing the tip.

I have used this epoxy and my opinion on it is that its the best overall to use for topcoating

The question is does this epoxy protect against UV rays. I used devcon for 5yrs and switched to Flex Coat Ultra V (high build). I've been using this product for over 4yrs now and it's hand down the best brush on clear coat I've used. I still use epoxy for my sealer coat but never as a top coat again. I'm not trashing this product or anything like that, just saying there are similar products that might be worth a look.

I saw that someone mentioned this epoxy a week or so ago on TU. I believe he was mistaken because the product that was recommended by that same person is their 20 Minute Finish Cure which I wrote about here about 2 months ago. I bought some of the 30 Minute Slow Cure yesterday and tried it today. I tried it three times and found it goes on similar to D2T with slightly more working time. When I say slightly I mean one more bait. Each time I was only able to clear 3 good baits. I tried doing a 4th but it had thickened up too much to flow nicely off the brush. I've cleared several hundred baits with the Finish Cureand is great stuff. No bubbles, durable, etc. For appearance purposes I prefer a second coat. One is sufficient and no one has complained but once I tried a second coat, i was sold. I was hoping a single coat is sufficient with the 30 Minute Slow Cure but the working time will drive me nuts. I can do 7 baits with the Finish Cure and it flows much better than the Slow Cure. We'll see how they compare tonight. I can already tell the Slow Cure will have a deeper look with each having a single coat.

Re: For you epoxy guys (shaggy1081)

Has anyone done an underwater test? Leave the bait over night in the water to see if it breaks down. I had some hobby store 30 minute versions I used 4 or 5 years ago and had them on the deck of the boat on a day where it rained ALL day and it ruined the baits and the top coat softened.

So just check it out before you are convinced it is as good.

Re: For you epoxy guys (shaggy1081)

I hve some Brian Bee 24 balsa cranks with minor holes in the paint. Is this what I would use to recoat and seal the balsa? If so would I dip or brush it on?
    Thanks

Re: For you epoxy guys (cal z20)

Dont just brush it on and let it sit, you will need to rotate your crankbait to let it flow evenly.
