    225 etec running cold??

    Hi,
this is my first post and from checking this site out it looks like there is some good info to be found here. I know i dont have a bass boat but I do have an e tec so I thought I would throw out a situation I have for you guys and see if you can help. So here goes....
I just got back from an offshore fishing trip running 3 days probably about 40 miles a day. I have a 22 foot boston whaler revenge with a 2005 225 e tec on the back. I filled my 3 gallon oil tank before I left and when I looked at it on the last day it was about a 1/4 full. I think I burned around 70 gallons of fuel for the trip? (my commander series fuel flow meter was not working right so I dont know for sure, but that is another story).

I took it into the shop yesterday and my mechanic told me that BRP was sending parts cause apparently it is running too cold? He said around 120 degrees. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Are there any long term effects that could result in burning so much oil. The motor has about 55 hours on it. I am burning the xd 100 and this is an expensive little problem to have. I have gone through almost 5 gallons of oil since I got the motor.

    thanks

    Welcome to the BBC.

I have not seen an E-Tec running cold but it could happen, sounds like BRP has parts on the way to fix it.

Have your tech check to see what the extra oil clock shows, if you dont yet have 10 hours above 2000 RPM's the motor is still using extra oil, once it reaches the 10 hour above 2000 mark the oil consumption will decrease, most of my customers call to ask me why it quit using oil....Kinda scares them.

I am positive I have over 10 hours over 2000 RPM. I only use the motor for cruising and have not trolled with it. I wish it would stop using oil cause as of now it is sure sucking it down..... I will ask my tech how many hours the extra oil clock shows. Thanks for the reply

Everyone says that when I ask, in every case this turns out to be incorrect, it takes a lot of run time to get 10 hours above 2000.

well I guess you could be right, but I would be surprised. I will check with the tech. Thanks
