    FastStrike issues

Currently own 96 175 FastStrike M # J175GLEDB, S# G04061097. I had a power head changed this summer and I'm having problems with lower rpm 's and top end speed. Rpm's are down to 5200 from 5800 and top end 52mph from 60 mph. I brought it in to my mechanic; he found a small fuel leak and said it was running cool for that motor and needed a change in thermastates but doubted that would make that kind of difference. Is it possible I'm not getting WOT. What would you suggest. I also had compression check done and he said that all cylinders were at approx. 100 lbs.

I am no mechanic but 100lbs sounds low to me... my 150 intruder has 115-119 lbs per cylinder.
Has your mechanic checked the timing on it?
One of the guru's will chime in and hopefully get you fixed up! They did me... told me to quit fishing tournaments!

ChampioNman has told me anywhere from 90-110 lbs is normal. With his gauge.

Your comp. numbers look good. Are you pretty confident
in your mechanic? Is he the same one that did your PH?
Easy to check for WOT in driveway. Advance throttle to
wide open ( engine not running) and look at carb. throats.
Carb. throttle plates "should be" 90 degrees from carbs,
all the way open. If you have a hot foot, seek assistant.
And "yes", improperly working T-Stats will allow an outboard
to run like crap. I'm not a mech. but, I have stayed at the
Holliday Inn Express and visit this site often.

I bought the used power head off a well known mechanic that a lot off tourney anglers in my area ( Ontario ) go too. He's very busy and does a ton of work. I didnt want to go used but finances forced me too. I still had problems afterwords; low water pressure ; motor running ruff and stalling a lot; lack of rpm's and top end ; 4200 rpm's and 42 mph; I checked plugs and it looked like 1 cylinder wasnt firing; very wet; so i called him up told him the problems. He told me the change in powerheads shouldnt have nothing to do with any of those problems and suggested I drain old gas from last fall when I put her away ( with marine stabil by the way) and see what happens. No change occured after doing so. I called him back and he insisted the change in heads had nothing to do with those problems I was having so I took the boat to another local mechanic a lot of guys in our bass club go to and like alot. He put in a new water pump which sloved that problem got all cylinders working and found some small fuel leaks. He also noted the moter was running cool for it and suggested changing the thermastats; which Im in the process of doing; he says the motor will run better but doubts I will increase my rpm's and top end any more than he has which is now running around 5200 rpm's and 52 mph tourney loaded. Before the powerhead blew I was getting 5600-5800 and 60-62 mph. My question is whats causing the lack of rpm's and top end. I'd like to get back to where I was. Looking for any and all suggestions .
