i am very very new to this whole tackle craft thing... i got the pouring part down and started playing around with the powder coat step. all the things i have read on here have been very helpful, thank you to everyone who has had some input so far...my question(s) is this... Is powder coating the only way to paint jigs? or is this the easiest/fastest way? can you hand paint jigs, and if so is there a benefit or downfall? mainly durability? a certain paint to use etc...
Powder paint is the best way to go for all the reasons you mentioned. It is the easiest way; just heat-dip-bake, and you're done. It is also the most durable, the finish is pretty much indestructible.
Sure, you could paint by hand, or dip in enamel, but it will be a more messy process, it won't look as good, and it won't hold up to abrasive fishing conditions nearly as well.
If you don't use the powder paint you'll need to add an epoxy coat to the finish for hardness and durability.
