Finding the Spline of a blank......

I recieved my blank today and found the spot where the rod jumps and lays to rest. I am assuming this is the spot i need to put my eyes on. This is a casting blank for reference. Sorry for such a basic question but i was just wanting to make sure.

    Thanks
    Matt

disregard it and build on the straightest axis.

if its a perfect blank and you are putting the eyes on top, you can put them on the outside of the bend.

Oh no... do a search on rodbuilding.org and you are going to get a lot of different opinions on building on the spine or straight axis (been there, done that). I have done both and can't really tell the difference (performance or otherwise).

Do a little test (which I’ve done) check some of your other mass production rods and see if they were built on the spine or straight axis.

Here are a couple of videos for you to look at:

    Good luck!!!

    <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by cidgrad &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">straightest axis will give you the straightest line path.</TD></TR></TABLE>

It will also make your guides look better as well vs shifting them from one side of the blank to the other to account fot the crooked axis!
