Question for the painters?

For those of you who paint cranks.. IF you buy blanks, IE unpainted lures.. do you sand them prior to painting them to get the paint to stick better? So many of them now are coming with very nice texture, sanding would take much of that texture away.. Secondly, if you are re-painting a crank, do you sand them down to get the paint off before you repaint?

For blanks I use a primer for repaints I use a light sand paper and then primer

sanding is not really required when using createx paint, but it wouldn't hurt. however, once you put your finish on the cb, the paint won't go newhere.

It would be a good idea to lightly hit them with a scotchbrite pad to give the paint something to adhere to, On repainting sometimes yes and sometimes no it depends on the bait for example something like a Ito vision 110 is weighted pretty close to where it should be to suspend if you add more paint and clear more than likely you have a sinker.....

I agree. You really need to at least dull the surface for the primer to adhere well to the surface. If it doesn't stick to the lure your clearcoat WILL come off. I have learned this the hard way.

If you use etching primer it adhears to just about anything. Eat's into the plastic and dry's in seconds.....
