    Tying Jigs/Making skirts?

Alright heres the thing. I want to start tying my own jigs. I am going to buy the jig heads but i want to make my own skirts. i am only 16 years old so i have NO experience with anything here. i was wondering if someone could give me an overview of how to correctly do this. and by this i mean making the skirt and then tying it. i am going to use wire rather than thread i like that tie better. thanks in advance

Order the tabbed skirt material and the collars from staminainc.com, lurecraft.com, or Barlow's. Go to Wal-Mart and buy some roundnose pliers from the craft section. These pliers will fit in the collar to open it enough for the skirting material.

Make skirts 5" log. 40 strand for spinnerbaits, 50-60 for jigs. Experiment with different colors and have fun.

I have been doing it for about a year now. There are several diffenert ways to make a skirt. Some people like to hand tie there jigs others don't. I have made a a skirt making tool out of house hold items, all you have to have is a ball point pen that you take the guts out of and a piece of bailing wire.Put a hook on one end this will allow you to pull the tab into you chamber of the pen and you can roll you collar off onto the skirt. Your collar will hold the skirt so you can have both hands free for teing it with wire.

Safety wire pliers are what you need. I cannot remember if I bought mine on ebay or Harbor Freight but I have some cheap ones that were less than $20 shipped and they work great. The only thing is that if you get the auto return ones grab the plier head after twisting or they unwrap as fast as they wrap.

Man, I cant figure out how you would use those, maybe I should by a pair and experiment, I tie mine with thread right now , cause its easier, tried the wire and didn't really like it.
