    1990 Evin 175xp

    I'm looking at buying a 1990 Nitro with a evinrude 175 Xp. The guy that is selling it said it over neated the last time he had it out. The motor turns over now and has good compression but will not fire are there some things to look at electrical that may have been damaged in the overheat. The boat is priced right and in pretty good shape so I'm very interested even if it may need the powerhead redone. Thanks in advance for your Help. Pat

    Regulator/Rectifier is water cooled. may have burnt up too.

    Thanks for the information I'm really interested in this boat its in pretty nice shape. I figure if I buy it I'll buy a manual for the motor and start there I'm also going to replace the water pump Thermostats etc. and check all the wiring.

    Not sure what needs to be replaced in this particular motor but in general I always thought the GT/XP175's were great, strong motors. I actually thought they performed in some areas a little better than the later 60* 175's. IMO there was a bigger difference in the 150's than ther was the 175's.

    I have the same motor on a 1990 javelin 389 and it has run great for me the past two years I have owned it.

    If it overheated, check the reg/rect (tach working properly and battery charging ok) and the stator for black goo running from stator coils.

    very good running motor overall.

    Thanks for the responses guys I think I'm going to try to get out and pick the boat up this week.
