I was wanting to know the same thing. I'm thinking of redoing one of mine. My all time money winning rod looks beat to a pulp. The guys know my favorite rod when they see it![]()
Thanks in advance
when you say finish do you mean the finish on guide wrappings or the finish on the blank it self. The blank finish is depending on what the company uses is a rod varish as to an epoxy on the wrappings. to refinish the wrapping just sand the finish with 400 paper just to clean them up ,than you can recoat them, I use U-40 on all my wrappings and have no problem going over the old finish, comes out like new. If its the finish on the blank, then the entire rod has to be stripped. let me know more details and i'll try to help you out.

Guys,
I had the same issue with three Daiwa LT rods, the finish was cracking and comming off the blank, I called Daiwa told them the situation, next thing I know they gave me a return authorization number and the rods went back to the factory...couple weeks later three new rods showed up at my door step...![]()

Good luck!!!
the finish I'm talking about is on the rod. the finish on the wrappings is still good. this rod has to be at least 15 yrs old so i dont think the chances of a new rod are very good.I thought about sanding the clear coat off and spraying it with my air brush and a clear coat of some kind.
hey its that old , go for it, but I would take like 600 paper than 3m scotch bite pad
Good Luck

Sand it down with 600 or better grit. Remove all of the old varnish and apply new varnish. It is a Rod varnish that is used it will hold up better than any other procuct out there. It will flex with the rod and resists chipping and recracking.
DON'T OVER SAND THE BLANK THOUGH!!!!
I usually do this for about $15 for my customers.
