    Hand Tied Skirts

I am trying to learn how to hand tie my own skirts. I am using 24 guage copper wire. I wrap it a couple times and twist. I keep breaking it off before I feel like it has gotten tight enough. Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong or if I am using the wrong kind of wire.

    Thanks

I'll tell you what I do and hopefully it'll help. First I was doing the same thing so I went back to 22 gauge, second get you a some safety wire plier's(I'll post a link at the end), wrap the wire around the neck of the jig 2 times and pull on both ends until it's good and tight then start twisting. You don't have to twist until the wire starts cutting off strands for it to be good and tight either. Another thing you can try is to put a collar on and wrap the wire onto the collar until you get the feel for when it going to break. It'll cut into the collare and it will eventually break off but it'll get you a feel for it at least. Here's a link to the plier's.

    Re: Hand Tied Skirts (dpage70)

Thanks for the reply. Did a few of them that seemed to get tight without breaking. But have done several and it did break. Guess I will check into this tool and a little heavier wire. Also a little more practice !!!

    Thanks Again

Just wanted to say Thanks again for the advice. Pulling the wire good and tight before I started twisting did the trick for me. Have done several sense my last post without breaking any.

    Thanks Again

I appreciate it but am doing pretty well by hand and a pair of hemostats. Might get a vice though down the road to help out a little bit.

    Thanks
