    wire for tying on skirts

What gauge wire are you all using for tying skirts? I have this one jig that I absolutely love but the collar the guy uses seems to wear out very quick. I've seen it posted on here before but I can't find the posts. Also I'm looking for the real small barrel rattle's that a lot of people use for finesse jigs. Wehn that collar wears out the rattle holders on the collar won't hold the rattle anymore. thanks for any help.

Use 20-22 gauge copper craft wire. I buy the beadery brand... I use 24 gauge and thats as thin as you will want. I have tied thousands of baits and have the feel it takes to tighten w/o breaking the wire.

Safty wire twister pliers work great if your gonna tie alot of baits. But get the smaller size with manual returns... No auto or spring return...

Thanks Mike. I have a pair of the pliers and I never thought about using them. That's a good idea.

The key is not the twisting of the wire, It's the pulling tight of the tag ends before the twist and cut. Make sure you only wrap the wire twice around the bait. Not once or three times. 2 times, pull tight and twist.

That is an easy quick option. But the skirts will look alot better when tied with the wire. Got the T-Shirt.

Just the links above of rattles I posted for you...

Re: wire for tying on skirts (egandy)

I bought some 24 gauge galvanized this past weekend and it worked very well. The jig I'm using this on is a finesse jig and I love the way typing the wire on it flares the skirt out a little more around the head. Thanks for the info guys.
